I imagine there are some fish to be found in the creeks but we need some heat before the main school shows up. You might find a limit or two if you fish hard in select areas, but those water temps need to get up in the high 50s or 60s before things really get going. Rowlett Creek Fishing Report. My 6 y/o son has been begging me to take him fishing constantly. My dad has a pond in his backyard near Houston that my son learned to cast on and now all he wants to do is go fishing every single day.
I don't really know much about fishing, and I didn't want to drive out very far to one of the bigger lakes like Joe Pool or Lewisville since I felt like all the publicly accessible banks are probably over-fished, so I thought I might take him to whatever tiny body of water is closest. I didn't expect to catch anything big, but he's 6, so whatever. Boy was I wrong. We went to Lake Cliff Park, where there is a tiny lake, that I would call a large pond if the park's name wasn't 'Lake Cliff'. In a couple of hours we caught 6 or 7 largemouth bass, 5 of which were huge for that size body of water. My son caught two 5+ pounders, and I caught a 7 pounder. I couldn't believe it. All the fishermen I've ever seen there were always fishing for catfish so I guess the bass just get huge from being left alone.
We also fished Kidd Springs Park and caught a couple small bass, and didn't really enjoy ourselves since there is trash everywhere (btw, can we please fund a park clean-up service and anti-littering signage at our parks?).
Does anyone know of any other great spots like Lake Cliff to catch bass locally?
